Which casting decisions do you think are the worst?

I keep thinking about Wicked and I just feel so depressed about it. I'm a casual Broadway fan and neither Cynthia Erivo nor Ariana Grande seem to fit the characters they've been cast as. Maybe it will turn out better than I expect, but it made me wonder what other casting decisions have been just… wrong. I look forward to seeing what you think!

cinejanie: I’d say Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan? I really hope he proves me wrong when it comes out.

What’s your fave adaptation of the year?

I'd say: Wicked

cinejanie: Definitely One Day (the series)! It's incredibly delicate and moving—I've been recommending it to everyone I know.

Before Wicked: Ariana Grande's Films, Music, and her Magic

On March 10th, Ariana Grande graced the 96th Annual Academy Awards as a presenter, joining Cynthia Erivo, the lead actress of the movie Wicked, to present the award for Best Original Song. Ariana Grande's 2024 is already filled with anticipation — her seventh solo music album, Eternal Sunshine, and her debut as the leading actress in the movie Wicked. The demands of the Western music industry for singers' musical aesthetics and personal growth are synchronized. The streaming era has completely r

What’s Truly Wicked? A Tale That Questions Everything

Since its debut in 2003, Wicked, released by Universal Pictures and adapted from the classic Broadway musical of the same name, has journeyed from suffering heavy criticism to garnering widespread acclaim. At its premiere, critics were harsh. The New York Times headlined their review: THEATER REVIEW; There’s Trouble In Emerald City. The New Yorker commented, “The show’s twenty-two songs were written by Stephen Schwartz, and not one of them is memorable.” Despite its hefty $14 million production

The MOST Gut-Wrenching Deaths EVER: Why Greys Anatomy's Lexie Grey and Mark Sloan deserved a better ending

Why is it that the best characters on films and tv series often gets the worst ending? Grey's Anatomy is one of those comfort tv series where people can easily get attached to the characters. I find that the first few seasons of Grey's Anatomy were indeed the best and I will not get over. Especially the death of Lexie Grey and Mark Sloan.. Grey's Anatomy currently has 21 seasons, but I find myself watching only the first 11 seasons before going back to the beginning and rewatching it again. Seas

OSCARS 2025 : The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

I. Introduction: Setting the Stage for the 2025 Oscars As we know, The Oscars are one of the most important events in cinema, the moment for us cinephiles live for the nominations, the speeches, and the heated debates that follow. This year, more than ever, it seems the Academy's selections haven't completely reflected the audience's preferences. We often recognize the genuine artistry, passion, and films that genuinely connect with viewers. The 2025 awards season has highlighted numerous instan

'Wicked' is a love letter to the Oz franchise

If you had asked me about Wicked six months ago, my look of confusion would have been utterly unconfused. However, over the course of the year, this movie started appearing more and more in my life. First, it was a trailer at the theater, then the LEGO toy ads, and finally the massive cardboard banners in every cinema. It was impossible not to know about Wicked or, at the very least, not to have heard of it. Determined, I delved a bit deeper into this franchise, only to discover that not only do

Agatha All Along And The Ending That Never Was

Agatha All Along was and is a great series for the rise of Billy, also known as Wiccan. Like mother like son, it's no kidding he could do what he did, and had the crown of his lineage atop of head. All the scenes were fantastic, especially when Billy mind controls everyone and giving them all an early funeral… or at least, attempted to do so. But here's the thing… the ending of episode five, where he dawns the crown of the Scarlet Witch, and the song, “You Should See Me In A Crown” plays… should

The Era of Rewriting Oz’s Wicked Witch Has Arrived!

We’ve stepped into a new era. Gone are the days when the Wicked Witch of the West was nothing more than a green-skinned villain with an evil laugh. With Wicked (2024), we’re now looking at a new kind of witch—one that’s not just misunderstood but one who challenges the very idea of what it means to be “wicked.” This is the moment when Oz’s most iconic figure gets a much-needed makeover, not just in terms of her appearance, but in how we perceive her power, her struggles, and her relationships. Hannibal Lecter, the charismatic villain who leaves a mark

Hi, today I want to talk about my favorite villain. Hannibal Lecter from “The Silence of the Lambs ".I mean, what a character! Even though he is a villain, his wisdom and charm make him incredibly memorable. And, well, what I like is the way he talks. It feels like every word he says has a special reason, if you get what I mean. Sometimes, I wonder if he could teach oratory or something. The revered character conceived by Thomas Harris, Hannibal Lecter, has made a lasting mark on popular culture

Wicked: Salute to Opera Fans, Disaster to Movie Fans

Elphaba and Glinda. Hello Peliplaters! While Wicked has received widespread acclaim since its release, it was a 161-minute ordeal for me—though I should note that I genuinely enjoyed its beauty for about 30 minutes. Though Wicked faithfully adapted its source material, it failed to consider the cinema audience's experience. In theater, every performance is unique. Your seat location, your mood, the actors' energy, audience reactions, and unexpected incidents all shape your experience. Until the

Broadway is More than Just Singing

There are few things in this world better than Broadway. I can’t say I’m a superfan or anything, but it really is the peak of performing arts, combining the very best of singing, dancing, and acting all into one amazing live piece. Needless to say, I’ve been hoping for a Wicked movie for a while now. But no matter how excited I've been, I still can't help but feel anxious about the film. Because Broadway is more than just singing… but the casting choices don’t seem to understand that. As I’m wri

Which film had the juiciest behind-the-scenes drama?

We all know what's happening with “It ends with us” and it seems to be never-ending. I think it'll finally come to a stop once Netflix releases a 3-hour mini-series about the lawsuit. Which film had a lot of drama and fallout after or even before its release? and why did you invest in it? I can think of: Dont Worry darling Wicked press tour Wizard of Oz health concerns

Lucas Friesen: I mean, Rust is up there. Nothing says drama like murder. Although that movie never came out, so can't say I've invested yet. However, if it ever gets a release date (it won't), I'll be there!

Connect the movies you're planning to watch with a single sentence

Bonus points if there's a twist. I'll go like this: Paul Mescal (Lucius) seeks revenge, then finds himself in the Emerald City, falls in love with Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), and the two return to ancient Rome to live happily ever after. ——Wickator.

marvelousmars: Hugh Grant worries he migh be guilty of a hit-and-run on his way to the Emerald City! (Heretic, Juror #2, and Wicked :) )
