Which casting decisions do you think are the worst?

I keep thinking about Wicked and I just feel so depressed about it. I'm a casual Broadway fan and neither Cynthia Erivo nor Ariana Grande seem to fit the characters they've been cast as. Maybe it will turn out better than I expect, but it made me wonder what other casting decisions have been just… wrong. I look forward to seeing what you think!

cinejanie: I’d say Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan? I really hope he proves me wrong when it comes out.

Which sequels made you feel "everything they did in the original was right"?

I only came to understand “Gladiator” until I watched “Gladiator 2”. [Spoiler Alert, Gladiator 2] After watching the first film, I thought, "This could've been better If only Maximus hadn't died." In contrast, the sequel's protagonist, Lucius, not only achieves his revenge like a true king but also survives. Yet, something feels missing. Compared to Maximus, Lucius seems to merely "fulfill expectations." While I'd applaud his actions, they don't resonate deeply. Maximus's fate, however, stirred a powerful reaction in me—"It shouldn't be this way; we must strive to change it."

L. C.👋: Compared to Maximus, Lucius is a flawed fighter who gets injured easily. His aggressive fighting style would not be effective against Maximus, who could have quickly torn him apart.I invite you to check out my profile and leave a like.

The Penguin: The unexpected diamond in the rough of the year.

Last Sunday saw the end of the Penguin series, which with its final episode ranked as one of the best in IMDb's history with a brand new 9.7 rating. Now the question is: Is this series really that good that none of its 8 episodes went below an 8.5 rating? My short answer: yes, absolutely. My long answer is below. Cast and performances Of the many things that stand out about this Matt Reeves miniseries masterpiece, it's undoubtedly the cast and their performances. The fantastic foursome of this s

Serena Cuoghi: I didn't even know about this series. Thanks for introducing it to me Stephan, I'll sign it up! I am really liking the way in which your writing is maturing at great speed, you are a wonderful communicator. When I see the series I will be able to contribute to the debate of the arguments, but I know that your good judgment will not disappoint me. Keep growing and offering us more of your interesting proposals!

✟ "Heretic", a terrifying dance to the origin of faith.

* Plout lines Today I bring you a deep discussion about religion that has already been related to franchises such as “Shaw”, “Escape Room” or “Speak No Evil”. “Heretic” is all this and much more, a cocktail that lacks nothing. Terror. Intrigue | Unique setting. Excellent performances. Fresh, solid story with an agile narrative. A great theory about religion, which will leave you with questions. And surely, terrified. Two young Mormon missionaries, Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxto

"Stranger Things", its colossal impact on Generation Z🔥

❤️Why watch Strangers Things This American series has captivated me completely since the first season. It combines science fiction, horror, thriller, fantasy and drama. Framed by the music, fashion and cultural references of the 80s. It shares our values and brings them to the screen in a bold and sincere way, through endearing characters with current themes, since its premiere on Netflix on July 15, 2016. ✨Brushstrokes of the plot The story begins in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, in 1

The Boys: New air for the Supes generation.

Oi! Less than two months ago, I started watching The Boys for the first time, just a while after its fourth season aired in 2019. I used to wonder why this series was getting so many memes and so much acclaim. I procrastinated for a long time before watching it; by the time I said I would, it was already three seasons old, and I ended up watching it after the fourth season, so you can understand the delay in experiencing this impact. Now, you may ask: Is The Boys a series that stands out as a ge

SMILE 2 improves EVERYTHING - How to enhance a classic formula for a terrifying sequel

A new installment in the saga of director and filmmaker Parker Finn. An honour that began with his short film "Laura Hasn't Slept" (2020), which subsenquently led to the feature film"Smile" in 2022. Originally planned for a streaming release, good test screenings convinced Paramount to distribute it on the big screen. With a small budget of $17 million, the film grossed over $200 million. Of course, such results motivated the studio to produce the sequel for this psychological horror. Now, in 20

Why Dragon Quest is One of Japan’s National Treasures

How do you create an animated hero with universal appeal? How do you craft a character that children around the world can connect with and remember? The answer isn’t complicated and doesn’t need to be filled with violence. Think back to when we were kids—what did we crave most? Warm companionship, unwavering safety, and love powerful enough to conquer anything. Dragon Quest delivers on all these fronts. This iconic Japanese franchise is like a crystal bathed in spring water—clear, brilliant, and

Venom’s Trash Philosophy

Oh Venom. Will there ever come a day where I don’t love you? Well, maybe, but we’ll get to that in a bit. I remember the first time I watched Venom in theatres. It was intense, exciting, and dizzyingly dumb. What accent did Tom Hardy think he was doing? Why was the writing so cheesy and awkward? Intrigued, I watched the movie again - 7 more times, in theatres. Each time it got funnier, until the seventh time where it understandably started to get a little old. Venom was not a good movie then, an

I Just Love Tom Hardy

When you think of Tom Hardy, what comes to mind? His intense gaze? The gravelly, rumbling voice that could melt you into submission? Maybe it’s the sheer physicality he brings to his roles—the bulk, the presence, the unyielding determination. But there’s something more, something deeper, beneath all that muscle and grit that makes us love him even more. It’s his ability to tap into raw vulnerability, often masked by tough exteriors, that draws us in like moths to a flame. And it’s in the *Venom*

Do We Need Gladiators Anymore?

Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II is just around the corner (by the time I was writing this), and I can’t say I’m not intrigued. But as I sit here, freshly acquainted with the original 2000 Gladiator—yes, it took me 24 years to finally watch it—I’m left wondering if we truly need another grand tale of revenge, honor, and heroism in 2024. Let me make one thing clear: Gladiator is a great movie. The sweeping battles, Hans Zimmer’s hauntingly beautiful score, Russell Crowe’s magnetic performance—there’s

Broadway is More than Just Singing

There are few things in this world better than Broadway. I can’t say I’m a superfan or anything, but it really is the peak of performing arts, combining the very best of singing, dancing, and acting all into one amazing live piece. Needless to say, I’ve been hoping for a Wicked movie for a while now. But no matter how excited I've been, I still can't help but feel anxious about the film. Because Broadway is more than just singing… but the casting choices don’t seem to understand that. As I’m wri

Does someone here know the REASON behind the Terrifier saga?

I somehow decided to give a chance to the disgusting gore horror tape that’s been the talk of the town and that everyone deems “instant cult film”. I don't want to consider myself a Sr. Analyst of the Seventh Art, far from it, and although I do tolerate cinematic experiences that are far from being a marvel for the most critical eyes, in this case I couldn't lie to myself. My body was wandering around, as if it were half-asleep and unwilling to finish the movie. The last strength I had left, mad

Paul Mescal: The Quiet Star of a New Era

Paul Mescal is not Russell Crowe , but he is the star of a new era. Paul Mescal has never exploited his fame or overexposed himself; instead, he has chosen to focus on his craft, fully immersing himself in his roles. In recent years, Paul Mescal has appeared in every film that has left a lasting impression on me and broken my heart. I’m grateful to have a young, talented, serious actor who wholeheartedly supports independent film with both his body and soul. HE IS REMARKABLE!!!

marvelousmars: Somehow I haven't watched anything with him in it yet - thanks for reminding me to get on that! I think a growing minority of new celebrities are starting to care more about quality and craft than fame (like Chappell Roan), and I want to support that as much as I can.

Connect the movies you're planning to watch with a single sentence

Bonus points if there's a twist. I'll go like this: Paul Mescal (Lucius) seeks revenge, then finds himself in the Emerald City, falls in love with Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), and the two return to ancient Rome to live happily ever after. ——Wickator.

marvelousmars: Hugh Grant worries he migh be guilty of a hit-and-run on his way to the Emerald City! (Heretic, Juror #2, and Wicked :) )
