So bad that they are good for me

In the tastes of cinema there are many nuances and very subjective opinions, between the good and the bad, the fun and the boring. But the truth is that there are movies that I myself accept that they are not the best to deserve an award, however for me they are movies that I can watch over and over again without getting bored, such as Prince of Persia, In Time, Green Snake, among others. So in this article I want to tell you without shame those movies or series that can easily be my guilty plea

Hot comment: Tienes razón esas películas son tan malas que son buenas en especial principe de Persia la he visto como 1000 veces

A Complete Unknown Feels So Familiar

Let's first address the elephant in the room. Yes, Timothée Chalamet sings and plays the guitar and harmonica in A Complete Unknown – no overdubbing, no lip syncing. The trailer put a lot of doubt into people's minds, including my own, about his ability to achieve this without sounding corny. Director James Mangold and screenwriter Jay Cocks must have known we would wonder about Chalamet's musical chops, for they throw him into the deep end early. In one of the movie's first scenes, Chalamet's B

The MOST Gut-Wrenching Deaths EVER: Why Greys Anatomy's Lexie Grey and Mark Sloan deserved a better ending

Why is it that the best characters on films and tv series often gets the worst ending? Grey's Anatomy is one of those comfort tv series where people can easily get attached to the characters. I find that the first few seasons of Grey's Anatomy were indeed the best and I will not get over. Especially the death of Lexie Grey and Mark Sloan.. Grey's Anatomy currently has 21 seasons, but I find myself watching only the first 11 seasons before going back to the beginning and rewatching it again. Seas

Challengers is Slutty, Intense, Magnificent

Why is tennis so damn sexy? Is it the outfits? Is it the heat from the overbearing sun beating down on sweaty, outstretched bodies? Is it the phallic nature of bouncing balls and swinging racquets? Maybe it comes from the innate tension created from the space between opponents. Or, to quote Zendaya's Tashi Duncan in Challengers, is it because tennis is not a game at all, “it's a relationship"? I was hesitant to watch Challengers in the same way that I'm hesitant to watch Babygirl. Sex sells and

Argentina’s Best Ride of 2024 – And You Need to See It!

As the year comes to a close, I’m picking my favorite Argentine film of the year. Los Delincuentes (2023) is not your average crime film—far from it. This three-hour slow-burner from Argentina is a strange but captivating ride that feels like a mix of existential musing and wild, unpredictable adventure. If you’re in the mood for a film that balances humor, heart, and a sense of freedom, Los Delincuentes (The Delinquents) should be at the top of your watchlist. As we approach the end of 2024, it

Indigestion on the Menu: Emilia Pérez’s Luxury Buffet

In Emilia Pérez (2024), Jacques Audiard serves up a cinematic feast, a lavish buffet brimming with a dizzying array of elements: crime, soap opera drama, lesbian romance, musical numbers, and a dash of fairy-tale charm. But much like the overstuffed plates of a luxury buffet, this movie is prone to causing indigestion. While the ingredients might seem appealing, the resulting dish fails to sit easily with the viewer, leaving you both full and unsatisfied. Audiard, a director known for his genre-

CONCLAVE: The death of Church

"Certainty is the great enemy of unity. Certainty is the deathly enemy of tolerance." One must be really careful when choosing the words to be used in a script. I don't have the certainty over what God the director of this peculiar movie prays to—if he even prays to any—but seconds after finishing the film, I understood that this isn't what's truly important. The feelings one can have about a movie before even watching it are really weird, but what's even weirder is how we submit to a subversion

Aging; evil nature

The Substance is a good movie where a woman in the entertainment industry must always stay young. She discovers how to rejuvenate, but it is not her who rejuvenates; instead, a new version of herself is born as a clone. The new woman goes for the success and fortune that the original lost all rights to. However, when the new being, identical to her, starts to deteriorate, it needs to extract a substance from the original, slowly killing her and making her age more. The original woman tried to st

Gladiator II Gives Us Bread and Circuses, but is That Enough?

Twenty-four years after the original, Ridley Scott returns to the Roman Empire with Gladiator II, this time enrolling Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington to bring the great civilization back to the silver screen. Gladiator II is loaded with visually stunning scenes and top-notch action, but it struggles to develop an interesting plot that isn’t full of simplistic, repetitive dialogue. This time around, Mescal is our champion. He plays Lucius (aka Hanno), the son of Russell Crowe’s Ma

JUROR #2: The eternal punishment of giving up the truth

“Always make the audience suffer as much as possible.” If there's something Alfred Hitchcock knew how to masterfully execute during his whole career, it was the twisted mind game he proposed to his audience. His words comprising the quote that introduces this article weren't in vain and his vision is probably one of the most inspiring ones in cinema history. Only a few have managed to follow in his footsteps and even though copying or reinventing what he did isn't necessary, being part of his le

What's your pick for the best acting of 2024?

Mine: Naomi Scott as Skye Riley in Smile 2 absolutely deserves a spot.

Best Acting Performance of 2024?

What performance did you see this year that totally blew you away? There were some pretty spectacular performances but, for me, it has to be Timothée Chalamet in Dune: Part Two. He, once again, proved that he's a generational talent and the best male actor working today. Watching Dune: Part Two, I did not see Chalamet or Wonka or Lee from Bones and All; I only saw Paul Atreides. From the moment he came on screen to the moment he departed, Chalamet embodied this role with incomprehensible skill. Look no further than the duality he showed between a love scene with Zendaya in the first act and his epic speech during a religious ceremony in the third act. But, hey, that's just MY opinion. What did you think? What was the best acting performance you saw in 2024?

cinejanie: He has that classical, princely charm in Dune, which suits his character perfectly!

Will Kirsten Dunst receive another Oscar nomination?

I absolutely love Kirsten Dunst's performance in "Civil War." Her portrayal is truly groundbreaking, bringing to life an incredibly complex and fully realized character. She undoubtedly deserves an Oscar nomination for this remarkable performance.

JennMaxwell: I agree, her performance is still a highlight of the year for me. Sometimes I feel like the academy neglects the films that released in the beginning of the year, and focus on the ones that come out leading up to Awards Season.

Breakout Star of 2024?

I don't know about you, but I feel like we are entering a new Golden Age of film actors; male, female and non-binary! I wonder, who do you think was the breakout star of 2024? What I mean is, who was the actor that made you sit up in your chair and say: “Who is that?” For me, it must be Kathryn Newton. Of course, she has been around a while but I'd never noticed her until I saw her in Lisa Frankenstein. I was floored with her look, ability and camera presence. She reminds me of a modern-day Barbara Stanwyck. If they ever remake Double Indemnity, they better cast her. Does anyone else see the resemblance? But I want to hear from the Peli Community. Which actor was your breakout star of 2024?

JennMaxwell: For me, it has to be Yura Borisov as Igor in Anora!
