Arrival is my favourite 2016 film. For months after it came out, I walked around my university campus listening to “On the Nature of Daylight” by Max Richter on repeat. Good times. That song cost Arrival from qualifying for a Best Original Score nomination at The Oscars, by the way. Wild story. Look it up. There was a thing in the 2010s where every director wanted to produce their take on the space travel movie. The era was the perfect intersection of cinema attendance and technological prowess.
Ishika Banerjee: This is such a good take and I totally agree. I feel like Amy Adams portrayal on any movie makes her seem like that though, its most obvious in Sharp objects if you've ever seen it.
A little over two years ago, I was driving to work around 8:30 am on a snowy January day in Canada. When I was in high school, I took video production classes as electives. Every year, we had to make a music video. Our sets were confined to the high school and our homes. Our casts were almost all teenagers. Our music videos frequently wound up with themes like bullying, mental health, and parents divorcing. These are all vital topics.
