Watch: Steven Soderbergh Gives His Thoughts on Film School at #TIFF2024

This year at TIFF, I was lucky enough to see a talk by one of my favourite filmmakers, Steven Soderbergh. Soderbergh spoke on a variety of subjects, from his upbringing to his thoughts on the film industry today, and I was able to capture (on my Android potato phone), his response when asked if young filmmakers should go to film school. Check out his thoughts below: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rt_dpAYu6vg?si=I23ECk7QzE_yB1DO" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Bob Woolsey: The age old question! Love this answer though. He's absolutely right. Finding your collaborators is so important.

The greatest Canadian filmmaker ever lived is both insane and insanely good

When it comes to choosing the greatest Canadian filmmaker, who would it be? We could consider a few candidates: for instance, James Cameron, one of the most commercially successful directors ever, regardless of nationality; or recent Hollywood darling Denis Villeneuve, whose unique aesthetic and personal touch have redefined big-budget blockbusters. After the success of his Dune series, Villeneuve will surely gain even greater influence in Hollywood. However, both Cameron and Villeneuve are esse

#TIFF2024 - What's Your Most Anticipated Film?

We're midway through #TIFF2024, and I wanted to ask all our Peliplatters - what's your most anticipated film coming out of the festival? Anora? The Brutalist? The Room Next Door?

Bob Woolsey: Is it too basic to say Saturday Night?

Pedro & Me - a TIFF Story

2:00PM: I am walking around my hotel at TIFF. I pass an older man with white hair and a beard. He is wearing a pastel coat and scarf, impeccably styled. I can't believe it, that was legendary Spanish auteur Pedro Almodóvar! 4:00PM I leave my hotel to catch a movie. Almodóvar is sitting in the lobby by himself, with no entourage. “What a down to earth guy,” I think. 6:00PM, I leave my movie, and Almodóvar is sitting on a folding chair in the theater lobby by himself. Hmmmm. I walk closer and check out the name on his TIFF badge. It seems that this man is not Almodóvar, but someone named “Terry.” Terry - you got impeccable style.

Bob Woolsey: Terry... Almodóvar? A twin brother, perhaps?
