Girl Interrupted Syndrome

I think someone's taste in movies can reveal a lot about them—their personality, their worldview, and even their level of intellect. I'm certainly guilty for being one of those people who make a rash judgment about someone based on their favourite film. Do I shun people I disagree with? No, definitely not. Do I silently form a negative opinion of them in my head? For sure. In the last decade and a half since its release, the film Girl, Interrupted has reached cult classic status, beguiling Tumbl

Ishika Banerjee: I will listen to Lana and never shut up about it, interesting article though I think I agree with the glorification of mental illness aspect. I think people who are bored and have nothing else going on in their lives like to make themselves feel more interesting than they are. To me as long as they don't harbour any toxic ideas or inflict them on others im usually okay, but the lines can blur sometimes and people who don't fully understand the complexities of mental illness and use movies like this as an aesthetic crutch tend to spread misinformation about the community. Lana all the way!

8½, The Spectacles Within Us

I stumbled upon this 1963 Federico Fellini masterpiece when I was 18, and it stood out among other classic movies that were a bit slow for my millennial taste. I fell in love with how the film captured the raw experience of being human: a confusing stream of consciousness that mixes dreams, memories, and imagination. All equally impactful in one’s life. I would watch bits of the movie every night, entranced by the expressive Fellini-esque characters, often bizarre and full of tenderness. I even

Does life make sense when an asteroid could DESTROY US in a second?

These days, my mind unexpectedly established a cinematic parallelism after reading the news that—even though there are still many doubts about it—an asteroid the NASA named YR4 could probably collide with our planet in 2032. Yes, I also spent the last days of 2012 thinking that the Maya prophecy would be fulfilled and heard so many tales about the end of the world that, at this point, I don't even know whether to believe in them or not. But returning to my essence and removing all science and hi

The “Smile” Films Are A Powerful Metaphor For Intrusive Thoughts

Intrusive thoughts are unwanted, troubling ideas, urges or images that suddenly intrude on your mind. They are common for people in general. Have you ever stood on a bridge and had the sudden, out of nowhere urge to jump? But these are especially tough for anyone with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The thing to understand about them is that they are ego dystonic - they don’t match up with the person’s values, and that makes them distressing. That ex

Luigi Mangione's case and how CINEMA can help us understand it

A few days ago, it was confirmed that there will be a documentary about Luigi Mangione's curious—and simultaneously weird—case. This 26-year-old young American, who comes from a wealthy family and has a high academic level, is Brian Thompson's alleged murderer, CEO of the private health company UnitedHealthcare. To better understand the reasons behind all this, I decided to google the company to see what it was about and if the media was spreading information on their websites about the matter,

Freud, Severance and the multiple personality disorder

Who has never thought about separating personal life from professional life and not thinking about what things to buy for home while carrying out some important task at work? In the striking social entanglement called "system," we are all tied to a double life in which we not only want to disconnect, but also intend and pretend to be something we aren't yet believe we should be. This article's topic may sound kind of complicated and pretentious, but believe me when I tell you it is. Let me expla
