The story follows four London detectives from different historical periods: 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053. The core that connects them is the investigation of the same murder in Whitechapel. Everything seems to indicate that behind the corpse hides a mysterious conspiracy whose scope is beyond anyone's knowledge. A thrilling british thriller to be followed chapter by chapter thanks to its audacious narrative, its high level cast and great production deployment. A must-see, ambitious miniseries.
The anticipation built from the trailer was certainly fulfilled in the film. "Bodies" delivers a compelling narrative structure, interweaving four distinct timelines where detectives from different eras investigate the same corpse. As the story gradually unfolds, it becomes apparent how intricately connected these characters are, unveiling the secret manipulations of a time traveler. The pacing remains brisk, and the multiple storylines are well-handled. The seventh episode ties up loose ends, setting the stage for a gripping finale in the eighth. The 1890 storyline features a journalist-cum-detective meeting a grim fate, while the 1941 detective exudes a rugged charm. In 2023, the leading lady dominates the screen, although the 2053 segment suffers from weaker performances and rushed storytelling, which is reminiscent of Predestination. The ending feels somewhat rushed, lacking clear explanations for the mechanics of time travel and the peculiarities surrounding the corpse's decomposition. Nevertheless, the post-alteration utopia is depicted with a sense of wonder, albeit somewhat detached from reality. Despite its designation as a miniseries, viewers are left hoping for a sequel to further explore the remainingmysteries.
Overall, it's pretty good. The only problem is that it holds the audience too much in suspense, leading to a bit of a letdown in the explanation and resolution of the crisis later on. Four generations of police officers are unchanged in their pursuit of the truth. While nobody is perfect, everyone is optimistic for the future and makes sacrifices bravely when the moments call. They come together from different time and space to rewrite the past, the present and the future, which is pretty touching to say the least. The antagonist is a pretty typical, cookie-cutter bad guy who longs for love. The way he tries to manipulate the past reflects his character while also being a nice fit to the central theme. It’s enough to plant doubts in the mind with a few words.
