loi 2004-208 explores the historical relationship between France and its Sikh community from the first mass migrations of Sikhs to Europe during WWI to the present-day discrimination against turban-wearing Sikhs on the basis of law against displaying religious symbols in schools, courts, and government offices. The film provides a striking example of the ways in which modern societies enact oppression through cultural and governmental institutions and the disastrous effects that follow for communities whose identities are not welcome even in their native lands.
