Dog Day Afternoon (1975)

Sonny Wortzik and two friends attempt a robbery at a Brooklyn bank. The plan goes wrong from the start when one of them bolts, and Sonny realizes the bank has little cash left. Tensions rise as the police surround the building, and Sonny takes hostages. The standoff drags on, with media attention and mixed public reactions. Amidst bargaining and demands for safe passage, Sonny reveals the robbery’s true motive: to fund his partner's sex reassignment surgery.
