Methodical, diligent, and uncompromising - it's ED's duty to suspend life at all costs: and as a hired killer, not just his own. That is, until, he meets DALE, a young part-time gardener who he quickly befriends, and employs. Their relationship is one of physical and emotional dependence. Ed needs someone to drag heavy corpses and perform those ordinary "hired hand" tasks that would otherwise grind his ailing back. Dale, on the other hand, is intrigued by the seemingly worldly, yet often stiff, approach to life that Ed exercises. From beginning to end, the film explores the value of true experience, and the subtle, often unnoticeable, interchanges between life and death.
