French-Brazilian Katia Machado debuted as an independent film Producer in 2004, when she founded her own production company Passaro Films based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her first feature was the internationally awarded "The Other Side of the Street" by Marcos Bernstein starring Silver Bear awarded actress Fernanda Montenegro. Since then, she has been involved with several Brazilian feature films and has received over 20 international awards. Her most recent theatrical feature work includes Marcos Guttman's "Maresia" released in 2016 and Bernstein's second feature "My Sweet Orange Tree" based on the best-selling novel by the same name. The film was released in 2013 and has received 7 international awards for Best Youth Picture in 2014. She previously co-produced Bruno Barreto's "Last Stop 174","Warming House Party", by Toni Venturi & Pablo Georgieff which received the "Honor Mention" from the Brazilian Association of Documentaries in 2006 and Paula Gaitan's "Agreste" in 2012. She is an associate producer for the feature documentaries "Barracão" by Waldir Xavier and "Amazonia Eterna"by Belisario Franca. Ms Machado began her career in France in the animation industry and later became Director of International Distribution and Co-Productions for the major independent fiction production company, Hamster Productions/ Capital Cities/ABC. She also acts as an international film financing consultant to several Brazilian production companies and has worked in films such as "Besouro" by Joao Daniel Tikiromihoff, "Dirty Hearts" by Vicente Amorim, "Budapeste" by Walter Carvalho, "Via Lactea", by Lina Chamie, "Falsa Loura" by Carlos Reichenbach, "The year my parents went on vacation" by Cao Hamburger among others. She is developing several projects including Bernstein's new feature, "Revenge Therapy" to be shot in 2019.
