Storyline:  José Mauro de Vasconcelos recalls his childhood through flashbacks after receiving a copy of his novel. At eight, Zezé lives in poverty with his family in Minas Gerais. Amid hardships and loneliness, he befriends an orange tree and later forms a bond with Valadares, a man he first misjudges, finding comfort in imagination and friendship.
