Joker Folie à Deux: A musical without rhythm.

The long-awaited Joker sequel has caused quite a stir since its announcement, mainly because of its quirky title and the return of Joaquin Phoenix as the complex, head-turning anti-hero that is the Joker. However, as fans eagerly awaited its theatrical release, even with its new theme covered under a musical alongside Lady Gaga, many were met with a stark reality: the film's ambitious gamble missed the mark and fell many feet short of the mark. Although the initial expectation focused on its uni

Chronicle of a Death Foretold?: Joker 2

It is unexpected to think that after the release of Joker (2019) its sequel was confirmed after director Todd Phillips himself and actor Joaquin Phoenix denied the existence of a future film. Likewise, a sequel to a film like Joker (2019) seems anything but a good idea. When we heard that Joker: Folie à Deux (2024) would exist, we couldn't help but wonder how they were going to treat Arthur Fleck's story and the unthinkable connection that a bleak and sad story in musical format would have. Why Joker: Folie à Deux is heavily criticised

The final outcome of Joker: Folie à Deux (from here on referred to as Joker 2) is something many viewers who watched the first instalment might not have anticipated. The first film tells the story of a marginalised individual at the bottom of society who, after enduring complete humiliation and betrayal from society, the government, friends, and family, ultimately breaks down, leading to a destructive confrontation with the world. Classic character development arcs indicate he should be evolving

4 reasons why 'Joker: Folie à Deux' is a historic movie (but not for the good reasons)

I remember the feeling as I left the theater after watching Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker’ (2019). Some people were speechless from the shock they felt. Others just couldn’t stop talking about the incredible journey that the film had been. But no one, absolutely no one, left the theater indifferent. It was expected that, being such a universally acclaimed film and becoming a box office that hit beyond Warner Bros.’ wildest dreams, there would be a sequel. At the end of the day, business is business. Wha

Real-Life Clowns Are Scarier Than Those in Movies

Two clown-centered movies have hit theaters lately: Joker: Folie à Deux and Terrifier 3. Both feature clowns who are deranged, violent villains that send chills down my spine. They are completely different from the fun-loving, balloon-twisting entertainers we see in real life. Seeing such terrifying clown figures, I initially believed that it was because filmmakers were deliberately trying to shift our perception of clowns, transforming them from comical, child-friendly characters into figures o

In 2019, the film world was stunned when the movie Joker was awarded the Golden Lion, the highest prize given to a film at the Venice Film Festival. The First Joker: Not as funny as I remember

I deeply appreciate a dynamic and interpersonal portrayal of an anti-hero because it's a challenging yet fascinating approach to creating a main character that audiences can empathize with and even relate to, despite their morally complex actions. Take, for example, Walter White in Breaking Bad. I could understand his initial desperation to provide for and protect his family, which is a relatable motivation for many viewers, myself included. However, as his pride and ego slowly led him down an i

Joker 2 : What Went Wrong?

Five years ago, Todd Phillips' Joker shattered expectations, blending a gritty character study with social commentary that resonated far beyond the screen. With Joaquin Phoenix winning an Oscar for his portrayal of Arthur Fleck, anticipation for Joker: Folie à Deux reached a fever pitch. The addition of Lady Gaga and a musical twist seemed like a daring evolution. However, as the film unfolds, it becomes painfully clear that ambition doesn’t always translate to execution. At its core, the origin

DC needs to break away from Warner Bros. Pictures

Since the success of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, Warner Bros. has been chasing both box office hits and Oscar glory. But ever since The Dark Knight in 2008, they’ve only been damaging DC’s superheroes with their misguided ambitions. Now, the once world-leading DC superhero IP has been left in the dust, with Disney and Marvel pulling ahead by more than a few levels. If DC doesn’t end its partnership with Warner Bros. soon, its superheroes may never regain the global love and fanbase they once had, with audiences willing to pay for their stories." This is hilarious

Joker 2: Shared madness

Greetings to all readers, this is my opinion about the second release of the new Joker movie. Joker: Folie à Deux. I must confess that it took me a while to see it. I had heard unfavorable comments about the movie, but I had to see it with my own eyes to know if I really agreed with the opinions of others. I always wondered what “Folie à Deux” would mean. According to the definition, it translates to “Shared Insanity” and is a disorder in which two people share the same delusional, and sick fant

Is Lady Gaga the Real-World Harley Quinn?

In Joker: Folie à Deux, Lady Gaga shines vocally, and her performance as Harley Quinn meets the standard, but I truly can't pretend to like the film's overall story. To be clear, I'm referring to Gaga's strong performance in the movie—not her portrayal of Harley. As someone who's been closely following her career, I don't question Gaga's acting chops. Her role in A Star is Born, where she masterfully depicts the transformation of an ordinary dreamer into a music icon, speaks volumes. This perfor

Why The Penguin Defeats Joker This Time

The Penguin and Joker 2 are both recent DC releases, but the rating gap between the two on Peliplat is striking. This made me wonder—what exactly makes The Penguin an 8.9 series, while Joker 2 only scored a 5.8? After watching the first few episodes of The Penguin, I’d say it’s because of its solid narrative, the kind we see in classic gangster films. In my view, The Penguin isn’t a DC superhero show but rather a crime drama about Gotham. The series opens with a strong start. In the first episod

Joker 2 | Who Failed Us: The Joker, or Hollywood?

Wallpaper of Joker 2 Hello Peliplaters! Have you seen Joker 2? I posted a critical discussion about it a few days ago. To be honest, I'm still disappointed by it. I'd been looking forward to it for a long time—even saving money to see it in IMAX to show my support. But in the end, it brought me less satisfaction than a bar of chocolate. Perhaps there's an unspoken extra bit to that famous Forrest Gump quote: "Your next piece of chocolate might be sweet, or it might be bitter." Joker 2 isn't just

Hello? Todd? You Betrayed Your Fans with Your Ha Ha Land!

I went to see the IMAX with great expectations. After watching it, I barely stop myself from giving it one star, only for the sake of my half-dead nostalgia pleading for at least three stars. As DC's first musical, it has quite a few stunning aspects - the cinematography is beautiful, and the songs are indeed good. Director Todd made a very bold attempt, but if possible, please don't try again next time. If you make a normal film, I'll definitely go see it. But what on earth is this? This whole show is like a giant middle finger to previous fans. We came to see Joker, but Todd was like, "Oh I'm sorry, there's no Joker here, only Arthur." Hello? Todd? Hey? If you've been kidnapped by Warner Bros., just blink, otherwise I couldn’t believe this film really came out from your hand (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ I thought for a long time and couldn't figure out how I could explain this movie to others. The best words might be DON'T WATCH IT. If you, like me, feel it's really not to be missed, then I would say it's a very good negative example that DC should never make another musical. Urgh. The more I talk about it, the angrier I get. I shouldn't have been this angry (♯`∧´)

joiless: I actually didn't hate the film as much as a lot of other people, maybe because I don't really care about DC in the first place. I 100% agree that the musical aspect was terrible though. If you're going to include songs, at least make them good ones...

DC Has Never Officially Revealed the Joker's True Name

In the comics, he goes by Jack Oswald White. Other names have included Jack Napier, Joe Kerr/Joseph Kerr, Jack White, William/Liam Distal, and Eric Border. In the TV series Gotham, the Joker's name seems to have been assigned to the character Jeremiah/Jerome Valeska. Most recently, in the latest DC film, Arthur Fleck has become the Joker's name. Clearly, DC is still cultivating an air of mystery around the Joker, and they seem to be hoping to use the concept of a "multiverse" to introduce different names across various Batman universes.

Wr75will: My thoughts is that the Joker is an idea, so as long as that idea exists, so does the joker. There will never be THE Joker, but A Joker. And of course as you mentioned, there is the infinite universes, so of course, there will be an infinite amount of jokers out there. And of course, there's bound to be universes with multiple Jokers, and some universes where the mantle was taken over by another. Some where the mantle was never taken after the previous Joker passes away. I like the phrase, "The joker isn't born to become, but birthed and nurtured from society."
