Buya Hamka Collection

The period when Hamka became a manager of Muhammadiyah in Makassar and successfully brought significant progress to the organization. Hamka also started writing literature for newspapers and his romance stories were well-liked by readers. Hamka and his family moved to Medan because he was appointed as the editor-in-chief of Pedoman Masyarakat magazine. This position caused Hamka to clash with the Japanese authorities, leading to the magazine being shut down as it was deemed dangerous. The Hamka family's life was also shaken when one of their children died due to illness. Hamka's efforts to approach the Japanese authorities were viewed as being sycophantic and met with hostility, resulting in him being asked to step down from his position as the manager of Muhammadiyah.

Shortly after the proclamation of Indonesia's independence, the threat of a second aggression from the Allied forces emerged. Hamka decided to travel around Medan to spread the importance of unity between the community (religious figures) and the Indonesian military, in order to prevent them from being divided. However, this effort led to Hamka being shot. Fortunately, Hamka survived and as a result of his service, he moved to Jakarta and founded Al-Azhar. However, Hamka was falsely accused of being involved in a rebellion against Soekarno. He was arrested and tortured to sign a confession letter. Hamka persisted and his experience led to him writing the most influential book in Islamic education, the Tafsir Al Azhar.

Depicts Hamka's childhood in Maninjau, West Sumatra, where he showed a great interest in tradition and literature, despite neglecting his education at the pesantren and often clashing with his father. After his mother divorced his father, Hamka went to Mecca to learn about organization, the hajj manasik system, and to pursue his life's greatest mission, building Islam in Indonesia. However, Hamka still struggled with his father and met Siti Raham, an extraordinary woman who became his greatest inspiration in life.
