Valentina, a 12-year-old Italian girl, witnesses a mafia murder in Sicily. Isabella, Valentina's mother, knows the Mafia wants no witnesses and decides to hide her daughter in a remote town in northern Sweden, where she has a long lost connection with a childhood friend, Anna.
