Three generations of women live in one large house, under one roof. All are single; not one has a personal life. Women close in blood are not friends, but simply forced to live together. Partly because they have nowhere to go, but what is most important is that Kira, the head of the house and a doctor in a private clinic, wants them so. An indisputable authoritarian, Kira arranges daily briefings, interrogating and instructing her daughters. The hollow piece in the Maltsev family collapses after Kira's mother disappears, having written off all the property to a strange woman and the priceless Van Gogh painting to the Museum of Arts. The issue of the will and the picture, the proceeds from the sale of which could have freed each of them from the 'family ties', will set the women of the big house at odds once and for all.
