What is Writing Rescue? Writing Rescue is a video series designed to help students cite information in academic essays using APA style. What is APA style? It's a style guide set out by the American Psychological Association. APA style includes standards for citing and referencing information, laying out a paper, and using appropriate, respectful terminology. There are many other style guides, including MLA (Modern Languages Association) and the Chicago Manual of Style. APA style is most often required for student assignments the social sciences. If you use information or wording in your essay that comes from another source, you have to stay where you got that information or wording from using what's called an in-text citation. We explain exactly how to do that whether your sources have one author, two authors, many authors, no author, no date, whether it came from the web or came from a paper. We also explain what to do with secondary source citations and how to tell whether information is common knowledge.
