In 1982 the karaoke craze hit Hollywood with Watanabe's. It was the very first karaoke bar in America, opened by Yoshi Watanabe who imported the singing sensation from Tokyo. Watanabe's was the happening scene for celebrities and impossible to get into if you weren't part of the Hollywood elite. Over the years its star faded and it eroded into a seedy dive bar. An American Idol auditions reject bought the bar with a dream of bringing it back to it's glory days. Today people have a new nickname for Watanabe's: Wannabe's. Is there hope for Watanabe's? Or will the whole dream end on a sour note? Written by Andy Cowan (Seinfeld, Cheers). Executive Producer: Gary Kleinman.
