In 1973 a unique Latino rock movement literally exploded into the pop zeitgeist. Groups like SANTANA, MALO, EL CHICANO, and Afro-Latino group WAR sold out arenas and rocketed up the Top 40 music charts. In fact, War's debut album was the number one album of that year. And from that era there actually remains a mythical Latinx rock saga yet to be told about a Mexican-American band called Esperanza. The Esperanza television series delivers a new and compelling Chicano legend about a close-knit Latinx family of teen and young adult rock musicians. Discovered by a major record label, they must still confront the intolerance, inner-city crime, economic disenfranchisement as well as the subtle, blatant and even deadly racism rampant in Los Angeles during the 1970s. In ensuing one-hour episodes, their success will only amplify the challenges they'll face. Poignant, romantic and even at times comedic, while featuring original music, as well as iconic hits from that era, Esperanza depicts an authentic and inspiring Latinx Mexican-American story that unflinchingly reveals the historic struggle of the marginalized to grasp an elusive American Dream.
