The series start with a bunch of teenagers going for a picnic. Charan (Venky), son of Mallika (Jyothi) and his friends are driving and listen to a cassette his girlfriend is carrying. Charan is curios to know who the singer on that tape and she explains it was from an old accomplice of her grandfather's known as Raghu, the famous singer. On their way the car breaks down and the gang starts to trek a mountain they spot close by. They encounter an old man living in the the woods who is is none other than Raghu. The curious gang demand him to answer who and where he was all this while and then goes back in time to tell his story. The flashback revolves around Ranga (K. S. Ramesh) who works for Gowda (....) the Panchayat of the village he lives in. Ranga who is interested in singing and learning music is always mesmerized from Shastrigalu's (M. V. Vasudeva Rao) music classes. He secretly listens to him teach the young kids of the village and learns/practices himself. Once day he is caught by the Gowda singing on the fields and is warned that he would beat him to death if he heard him sing again instead of working. One day Shastry is walking around the village and hears Ranga sing the lesson he taught his students. Shatry is very impressed with his talent and volunteers to train him professionally in music but Ranga scared of the Gowda turns it down. Shastry forces him out of the field and starts teaching him. As days goes by Ranga is much qualified in music and is able to sing classical songs. One day while he is grazing the Gowda's cows at his field Ranga sits down to sing and practice. Overwhelmed in music Ranga fails to notice that the cows move around grazing in a neighboring field. The angry owner complains to Gowda about what happened. Gowda furious at Ranga shouts at him and canes him ruthlessly. Shastry rushes to the spot and saves him. Shastry offers him shelter and asks Ranga to stay with and his wife as their son. Days pass by and Ranga is now a very qualified and trained by Shastry. Very soon Shastry's health is deteriorates and dies along with his wife. With nowhere to go Ranga leaves the village. Ranga wakes up in Bangalore city on a park bench. He is spotted by Mallika (Jypthi) whom Ranga had once helped in his village when her car had broke down. Surprised to see him there, she takes him home and offers shelter. Mallika is a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer and is busy performing on stage. Ranga starts accompanying her to all her shows and then encounters, Chakravarthy (Manoranjan Prabhakar) who is the primary singer for all Mallika's performances. Soon Mallika understands that Chakravarthy is a egoist man and is very hard to work with. When Chakravarthy does not show up for a performance Mallika pushes Ranga to take his place and entertain the eager crowd. Ranga wins the heart of the audiences. Very soon the duo start performing together and Mallika is falling for Ranga, now knows as Raghu. Though Mallika's father is not happy about this the adamant daughter is finally marries Raghu. Raghu seems to gain more popularity over Mallika which brings differences between the couple. The frustration grows within Mallika and one day she finally explodes on Raghu on stage during a dance performance. The couple split and Raghu is never seen again. Back to the present, Charan now knows that the famous singer, Raghu is none other than his father. Charan and his friends plan to reunite Raghu and Mallika on the same stage they split 25 years ago. But fate plays it game as Raghu sings the last song and takes his last breath on stage. Mallika goes into shock and dies instantly. Raghu and Mallika reunite in their death as Raagamaalika.
