In the Red (2015)

In The Red is a behind the scene glimpse into the world of audio recording. For over 35 years Sound Cell/Smith Music Group Inc. has provided the North Alabama area with the largest and most unique recording facility in the area. They have successfully developed many artists and writers, most notably multi-Grammy winners/nominees Take 6, Brian McKnight, Brandon Barnes and Claire Lynch. Over the years, founder Doug Jansen Smith has captained success in talent development and artist management, as well as production, songwriting/publishing, engineering and studio management. The term "in the red" actually refers to a term used in Pro Tools recording sessions used in the studio being the choice software of most professional engineers. As the record button is hit a streak of red displays across his monitors as Doug speaks to the artist in their headphones saying "You're in the red." and everyone knows...it's Showtime. Alternately "in the red" also refers to a term called "peaking" on a microphone where levels are too hot and audio becomes distorted.
