A man-made creation titled "Project Karabade" goes under the alias "Matt The Brat" and creates havoc in the Mushroom Kingdom after long years of peace between Princess Peach and the Koopa King, Bowser. Mario and his friends must retrieve certain items containing light powers before Matt retrieves items containing dark powers to save the world from becoming a world full of darkness.
