Conspiracy of Silence (1991)

On several occasions indigenous women and girls are referred to as "squaws" and regarded as prostitutes even if they're not, simply because of their race. At one point a character even declares that he "felt nothing" after killing a woman because she was "just another squaw who meant nothing."

Characters are accused of rape and at one point characters physically drag a girl into their car, shouting sexual slurs at her as she screams, after which they drive her out to a rural pump house, presumably rape her (off-screen), grope her and urge her to "put out". They make jokes from The Flinstones cartoon as they reach into her shirt.

The nude body of a murdered woman is discovered frozen in the snow by a young child who is out fishing with his father. Her breasts and genitalia are covered by shrubbery and snow but her buttocks is briefly seen.

Young men cruise around in a car looking to "get laid".

Mentioning of pregnancy, sex before marriage and visual scenes of tongue-kissing occur at a wedding ceremony.

A girl has a heart drawn on her leg in pen as well as a heart drawn in pen in her school notebook, in which each of them she has written her love for her boyfriend.

There are many scenes of physical violence towards indigenous people, including a woman being punched in the face (off-screen) and later seen with a split lip and two black eyes, an elderly native man being chased by a car and nearly hit after which characters climb on his back and jokingly spank him and a girl being stabbed repeatedly with a screwdriver, raped and slapped.

A lawyer has a pet tiger and jokes about how the tiger has eaten his two Siamese cats.

A character is pinned against a locker and has her head slammed into the locker while being threatened with murder.

A body of a murdered woman covered in blood is left frozen in the snow (see Sex & Nudity).

A teenage boy is shown graphic crime scene photos of his murdered girlfriend covered in blood, after which he faints and falls from his chair onto the floor.

A woman screams in agony after being told by her young daughter that her other daughter has been murdered.

Men make jokes about stabbing a native girl.

A boy frightens a girl by pressing her stomach repeatedly while saying that he stabbed another girl over and over again, before he declares that it feels great to kill somebody and that he has no remorse.

A boy's father shoves him onto a bed and demands that he "tell the truth."

"squaw", "pussy", "shit/shit-faced", "fuck", "numb-nuts", "bastard" and "god/goddamn it" are all said on multiple occasions.

First Nations Canadians are referred to as "Indians", but in the context of the film's setting (early 1970's) it was not intended to offend but rather to show the societal attitude at the time.

Characters drinking and smoking are both prominently featured. There are scenes set in bars and weddings where alcoholic beverages are featured.

A character is an alcoholic who drinks heavily and appears often chugging down entire bottles of beer. He also talks about Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and goes into a sort of alcohol withdraw while in jail.

Characters drive drunk while raping a high school girl.

A girl is raped and murdered and the criminals walk free for almost twenty years. Her mother is seen screaming in grief after learning the news.

A police constable becomes very upset when he can't charge anyone with murder for a character's killing; he becomes emotionally attached to the victim and the plight of her family after finding family photos in her bedroom during an evidence search.

A girl is visibly terrified after a boy admits to her that he was there during a girl's murder.
