"The Celebrity Game" was a retooled version of Merrill Heatter and Bob Quigley's earlier "People Will Talk," complete with an elegant set and a formally-dressed nine-member celebrity panel. Three contestants competed. Host Reiner posed a moral-type question (e.g., "Can most women keep a secret?" "Should a man shave in a gas station restroom?"), to which the celebrity panel secretly recorded either "yes" or "no" vote. The three contestants also locked in their votes as to how they believed the majority would answer. Reiner then asked the celebrities for their answers and why they responded that way; the responses usually made for the funniest moments in this show. The contestants won a share of $100 based on how well they and their opponents did--$25 each if all three answered correctly; $50 if only two were correct; and $100 if just one was correct. Several questions were played in this manner, except the final question had increased values of up to $300 for a correct answer. Contestants kept their winnings, with the top money winner receiving an additional prize. "The Celebrity Game" was a direct predecessor to the nine-member celebrity panel game show "The Hollywood Squares."
