Innocent, introverted and angelic Adelheid, or Heidi, is orphaned as a tot and left in the care of her self-centered Aunt Deta. At five years, Deta leaves her with her bitter grandfather, Urin, who has been judged for his youthful wickedness and the death of his son, Tobias, Heidi's father. Heidi leads a carefree life in the Alps of Switzerland, bring sunshine and the Gospel wherever she goes. But three years later, Deta returns, with a vengeance. Heidi has been employed as a companion for a vain invalid girl, Clara Sessaman, in Frankfurt, Germany. Heidi is whisked away from her sunny mountains to a cold and dreary town, amid a household ruled tyrannically by the indifferent and cold Miss Rottenmeier. Heidi continues shining her light, teaching Clara to become more selfless and take control of her condition and stop playing victim. She brings laughter to Sebastian, the butler, and Tinette, the maid, both who are ignored and overworked. She studies faith and learns to pray with Mrs. Sessaman, Clara's grandmama. She even forces Mr. Sessaman, Clara's travelling businessman father, to reconsider his sheltering of Clara. But closeted inside provides time for Heidi to deluged in thoughts - depressive thoughts. Traumatically wretched from her peaceful mountains to a toxic and troubled household, Heidi falls into a depression, contracting anxiety and overthinking. As she wastes away, Heidi must learn to reconcile her country life with that of the city, escape her prison and return to Grandfather and learn to fight for principles and faith in an ever-more wicked world, all while clefting to the Rock of Ages.
