The Promise (1988)

Based on a classic of Brazilian literature, the series tells the story of a farmer who lives in the countryside of Bahia alongside with his faithful squire, the donkey Nicolau. When the animal suffers an accident and is at his deathbed, his owner promises to carry a wooden cross to the town church. Political and religious conflicts make an impact on his journey and change his life forever.
