Out There (2013)

The 2 main characters are hormonal teenage boys (especially Chad), so several episodes and parts of episodes involve them trying to impress or go out with girls their age. Halfway through, Chris stops and rarely does this, unlike Chad. Most episodes are fairly subtle with their suggestive content and references. Almost all of them could as well appear on Cartoon Network. Some kissing and hugging occurs at times. Chris' mother's boyfriend appears in his underwear in some scenes, but not in a sexual content.

There are a few exceptions, such as a brief scene in episode one where Chad's father is being slapped by a woman while he and his partner are in their underwear. A dildo and a BDSM mouth gag are seen in the bottom right corner of the screen. In the same episode, Chris tells his teacher to "put his dick in a pencil sharpener and spin it". In episode 5, Chris asks, "why do girls like dicks?" (he is talking about unlikeable guys, but it's meant to sound like he's talking about genitalia). A man is nude in a scene from that episode, and is shown full frontal, but for some reason, he has no genitals. In episode 7, Chris takes sex aid pills to help Chad impress a girl he knows (and fails horribly).

Episode 2 is the most sexual episode in the show, and it revolves around Chris and Chad trying to see female nudity so that Chad can get over his fear of the female body. Sexual content here includes: an anatomy of the vagina, a TV which displays scrambled pornography (it is extremely fuzzy and impossible to actually see, but moaning and porno music is heard), porno magazines shown at both the beginning and end with women posing, but with no nudity, a boy talking about a porn shoot with vivid descriptions, a strip club scene where an obese stripper dances for a couple of seconds with mildly revealing clothes, until she takes off her top (her breasts are barely visible), and a teenager imagining a naked woman in a night's sky made out of stars (she has large, visible breasts, but her genitals aren't visible).

Violence in the show mostly consists of verbal arguments and fist fighting. Fights in the show consist of punching, kicking and shoving. They are cartoony and bloodless. Occasionally, there is some property damage.

Blood is only actually shown in episodes 4 and 9. In episode 4, a creepy looking man slits a teenage girl's throat, causing blood to fly everywhere and stains the main characters' clothes (it turns out later that this was a prank where the creepy looking man was a teen bully in disguise, and the girl actually wasn't killed, meaning the blood is fake). In the same episode, a fly stuck in a character's body escapes, causing a brief blood spurt to appear. In episode 9, a historical flashback shows a Viking and his son briefly bashing some bears with an axe and a club. Then, they pull the bloody dead bears' hearts out and eat them.

Although on a varying degree, each episode contains some language. If it were a movie, it would likely be on PG-13 levels of language.

The most common profanity in the show is damn, in some episodes used over a dozen times. Nearly every uttering of damn in the show has "god" at the beginning. "Son of a bitch", "hell", and "ass" are not as common, but pretty casually used. "Shit" is used in 8 out of the show's 10 episodes, 1-4 times an episode. Usually less common swears include "dick", "prick", "bastard", "crap", "screw", "piss", "douche", "balls", "tits" and "asshole". Religious exclamations, such as "God" and "Jesus Christ" are present to a varying degree. Characters pull up the middle finger infrequently. The F-word is NEVER used.

Substance use is shown through the show. It is the center of discussion at many conversations.

Episode 1 has Chad's father, Wayne, worried about Chad being on drugs (which he is not doing). This is due to Wayne's previous drug addiction. This is revealed through a flashback, where many different drugs are visible. Terry is usually seen drinking alcohol, at times to the point of inebriation (episode 4). Wayne gets high on an old weed stash (episode 1) and also gets drunk at a party (episode 4). Chris gets high off sniffing Varnish (episode 3) and Spanish Fly sex aid pills (episode 6). Backgrounds infrequently depict alcohol bottles.

The whole show has a laid-back, downbeat feel. There are pretty heated and emotional moments between characters at times, and the violence in episodes 4 and 9 can be disturbing for some viewers.

Overall, the show is tamer than an average adult cartoon. The main concerns here are drug use and some language, but even still, there are much more explicit cartoons in those aspects. Mature tweens and teenagers won't have a problem digesting the show.
