Marianna's wedding day is ruined when her former lover Alejandro, a crime syndicate leader, shoots her husband Jacob. A year later, Jacob is paralyzed and Marianna is working as a maid to pay the bills while they live in hiding from Alejandro and his gunmen. Shira has her own struggles as she seeks US citizenship by entering into a fake lesbian marriage with her boss, Annalyse, a former child star with a drug problem.
