The story revolves around the lives of two families. The family of the typical Punjabi Dr. Harbans Lal Mehta moves to the Ram Bharose co-operative Housing Society in a suburb in Mumbai. At the same time, the family of the archetypal Gujarati Advocate Hasmukh Lal Mehta moves in the same suburb and become neighbors with the family of Dr. Harbans Lal Mehta. As soon as they settle in the new environment, the families start to experience funny situations, and one of the main reasons is the identical initials "H. L. Mehta" on their front doors.
