Vera and her daughter Alice are provincials. The entrant Alice is invited for an interview at a prestigious metropolitan university. The school teacher Vera understands how important higher education is in our time, and supports her daughter wholeheartedly. On the eve of his departure for Moscow, Alice suddenly disappears.
