It's Australia in the early 1970s and Dot, a headstrong young woman is finally leaving the remote NSW country town she grew up in. With university at ANU starting in a few days time, Dot must drive 12 hours through the Australian outback on roads that oscillate between picturesque, desolate and sometimes dangerous. When Dot breaks down along the way she has no choice but to trust a strange garage owner to get her back on track. Although she keeps her guard up while she is with him, she later learns he had good intentions despite his brusque manner and how scared he made her feel. She discovers from her parents that he helped her for free, as they were unable to send any money through. Ultimately Dot reaches university unharmed and with a new appreciation of good will when least expected.
