'Romeo ke Funday , Laajawaab. ' is a romantic, entertaining comedy hindi feature film set up in a small town of Uttar Pradesh. As the name suggests, this film is a love story of a smart, educated but unemployed young man 'Romi' with 'Julie', the love of his life. Both belong to lower middle class families and secretly pursue their love for each other. Julie' parents are keen to get her married and proposals keep pouring in at their place. Romi' parents want him to take up some job while Romi aspires to set up his own business- a big beauty parlour/saloon but do not have the wherewithal. While Julie' parents can ill afford the financial demands of her marriage, Romi' parents look at his marriage as an opportunity to alleviate their financial woes. When Julie builds pressure on Romi to marry her, Romi assisted by his friend Guddu-the barber, succeeds in securing a loan from a local goon cum money lender- Dadda bhaiya popularly known as the finger -cutter. Dadda bhaiya is infamous for chopping off fingers of the loan guarantor, who is Guddu in Romi' case and in case of default would sell organs of the borrower to recover his money. Romi secures consensus of both the parents for their marriage. He gives some money to his father for meeting marriage expenses and the rest to Julie which her parents would in turn gift him in the tilak ceremony and with which he intends to start his business and repay Daddu bhaiya. A couple of nights before marriage date, the unfortunate Billu Chor breaks into Julie' house but fails to find any money. In his frustration and facing the cold of the night, he carries away the quilt in which the money was concealed but never discovers the same. The following day, Julie fell off the stairs and lost consciousness. She is taken to the hospital. At the same time her parents discover that the money has gone amiss. At the hospital when the two families meet and Romi' father insists on conducting tilak ceremony then itself ; the secret of the loan and the theft is revealed to everyone. Daddu bhaiya chases Guddu and Romi who manage to escape. The film throws light on the social issue of dowry and unemployment and how Romie in pursuit of his love and his big aspirations falls into the trap of a scrupulous moneylender and even decides to rob a bank. The film connects well with the current issues like demonetization of indian currency and how it chanced to save the bank robbery. Set up and shot in the State of Uttar Pradesh, the film well captures the natural beauty of the town of Shehjehanpur and its surroundings and the culture of the State. Using local dialects and poetry, the film showcases the strength of childhood friendship between Romi and Guddu, how household women connect their life situations with television serials and to an extent touches upon the issue of illegal transactions in human body organs.
