Mexican-Canadian filmmaker Nicolás Pereda presents a clever, engaging, and thought-provoking exploration of desire through the lenses of roles, identity, and representation, employing a strikingly efficient scale. The film centers on a group of three friends in their forties living in Mexico City, who find themselves entangled in a mild yet heartfelt love triangle. As Lázaro, Luisa, and Francisco compete for a coveted role in the same film, the unconventional casting techniques of the project’s director prompt them to reevaluate their ambitions and the identities they assume in their everyday lives. Lázaro, in particular, has even gone so far as to change his name, much to his mother’s dismay.
