At Dovedale Community College, Tom, an eccentric teacher with misplaced confidence, is tasked with rehabilitating a dropout class for a documentary. His students-Clark (nonchalant), Summer (confused), Joe (laid-back), Guinevere (wealthy), and Fred (intellectual)-each bring their own unique issues. Tom's attempt to introduce social issues and oppression falters as he fails to connect with his students, leading to a series of mishaps. An incident with maintenance worker Trevor, whom Tom mistakenly thinks is a threat, leads to an embarrassing scene where the class hides under Tom's desk. Later, Tom's chaotic role-playing exercise simulating the Brixton riots spirals out of control, culminating in a poorly timed joke about a "bomb" that offends Trevor and prompts a reprimand from Principal Everett. As tensions rise, the class reflects on their experiences, revealing their diverse perspectives and personal struggles. Tom's ineffective teaching and the students' challenges highlight the disconnect between their needs and his approach, leaving both Tom and his students grappling with their own growth and future.
