In the wilds of 1803, in Southern Australia, British Crown ships arrive to build a penal settlement at Narrm (Port Phillip Bay). William Buckley, a British convict, escapes the tyranny and months later, struggling to survive, is taken in as the family he never had by the Wadawurrung People, believed to be a reincarnated murrup spirit of a warrior named Murrangurk. Years later, his adopted family are killed in an intertribal battle. Buckley living by himself away from the Villages to avoid further conflict, stumbles upon musician and healer Purranmurnin Tallawurnin, on the run from her clan enforcing a marriage on her. Their love grows from that day forward, but in 1835 when John Batman, European settlers and the British Government Officials arrive slinging guns and inflicting violence to grab land, Buckley and Purranmurnin's lives are torn apart trying to stay alive. Survival is not easy; Buckley and Purranmurnin have no chance, or do they? Do they have Buckley's chance?
