Samuel Brunner has already been in prison for five and a half years for a homicide when the accidental discovery of the corpse exonerates him. The experienced public defender Anna Notrup sees a chance for a retrial. Samuel himself is skeptical, and Anna understands why when she reconstructs the case and how it was handled in the remote Black Forest village. Unimpressed by the dismissive behavior of the locals, Anna exposes the sloppiness and prejudices of the investigations of the time. But the deeper she digs, the bigger the stones are that are placed in her way locally. As a specialist in retrial, Martina Gedeck is at the center of the thriller drama in a magnificent mountain landscape. Her incorruptible gaze reveals the mechanisms tacitly accepted in the village and confronts the locals and the local police with resentment and cover-ups.
