Early 2003, the US is on the brink of war with Iraq. At Fort Bliss, Texas, Quartermaster Corps Food Service Specialist Shoshana Johnson is awaiting her deployment. Just weeks earlier she celebrated her 30th birthday. As she sits in the mess hall joking with her fellow soldiers, little does she know that in a few weeks she will become the first black female prisoner of war in U.S. military history.
