This film is the first in a series of three that shares the grit, wit, determination, compassion, resilience, and humanity of three doctors who founded Shared Harvest in response to health inequity they've experienced first-hand. This film focuses on Dr. Briana Young, mother of two young daughters and emergency room physician. Often mistaken for a nurse in the majority white, rural Illinois hospital where she works, Dr. Briana exudes love, strength, commitment and patience, in spite of her difficult work. In this story of the mental and financial health crisis unequally imposed on women and medical professionals of color, Dr. Briana shares her intimate world, striving to care for patients, community, her family and personal well-being. These films forge a path towards our shared hopes, fears and struggles. Frontline healthcare workers are not heroes - they are human too. The immersion in each doctor's everyday human experiences, along with expert interviews to add objective truth and validity, allows us to witness stresses that historically plague medical practitioners, including depression, burnout and suicide. Doctors are expected to stay strong in every crisis. Seeing their vulnerability and the daily demands they must face transforms stereotypes and allows us, as neighbors and patients, to support them in their work of healing.
