A biography depicting the life of Gaylord A. Nelson who was a governor and senator representing the state of Wisconsin (1959-1980). He is also most notably remembered as the founder of Earth Day which began in the USA on April 22, 1970...regarded as the beginning of the modern environmental movement. His instrumental efforts to create a cleaner planet dating back to 1952 is explored via interviews, archival footage and contemporary footage, including that of our wild natural preserves. Also many sequences have been filmed with others who are following the practice of ecological living. Gaylord Nelson was presented with the prestigious Medal of Freedom award on September 29, 1995, honoring individuals who have made a great contributions to either the United States or the World. Past recipients have been Lyndon Johnson, Hubert Humphrey, Edmund Muskie, Margaret Chase Smith, Edward Brooke, John Glenn and John F. Kennedy.
