Storborg

Storborg is an autobiographical film by director Manuel Álvarez Diestro, narrated through the experiences of his friend Sergio Marco. Both director and actor have spent most of their lives travelling the world in senior positions in multinational companies. Sergio and Manuel became friends when they were both working in Cairo, Sergio as general manager of a car manufacturer and Manuel as the representative for an airline in the Middle East. As result of this friendship, and after the actor overcame a major physical and emotional crisis, the project began. In parallel, Álvarez Diestro has developed his artistic career as a photographer and film director, and with this piece he is able to combine his experience in the corporate sphere with his work on the image. From this duality, the landscape occupies a place of reflection on the stories told by the man portrayed, in a universe of contemplative spaces in which the relationship between man and landscape emerges. The music composed by the Italian composer Opera 23 occupies a central place in the film. The shots have been edited over the soundscapes designed by the electroacoustic musician. The resulting style brings us closer to the videoclip, intermingling immersive sound spaces that travel from minimalism and ambient to sound theatre. At other moments in the film, a strong rhythmic accent prevails, transporting us to the territory of industrial electronica. In other words, in the editing process the editors and the director selected and inserted the shots while maintaining the musical structure, which is also organised to drive the narrative thread and the protagonist's transformation.
