By his humble demeanor and unmatched bull riding ability, Myrtis Dightman, commonly referred to as the "Jackie Robinson of Rodeo" tore down the racial barriers that prevented African Americans from competing in professional rodeo. A great American story that's never been told is now being shared through family, friends and Myrtis Dightman himself. His story is a piece of Black history, Texas history and American history. This documentary is a tribute to African American cowboys and cowgirls who have been omitted from the history books and Western movies. Many people are not aware that one in four cowboys were African American and the term "cowboy" was first used to describe black cowhands that worked on the ranch. It is imperative that we highlight the contributions of African American cowboys and cowgirls and their place in American history.
