Le jeune Noir à l'épée (2021)

Under Abd Al Malik's gaze, the painting "Jeune Noir à l'épée" (Young Black Man with a Sword), painted by Puvis de Chavannes in 1850, has become the subject of a contemporary poem. For him, this young black man is no longer a character from the 19th century, he has just come out of prison and lives in a dormitory town. He is a man in revolt, affected by his conflicting relationship with his African roots and with France. Abd Al Malik puts himself in the shoes of the young black man by drawing on his childhood memories.
