Went Up the Hill (2024)

Jack travels to a remote part of New Zealand to attend the wake of his estranged mother, Elizabeth, a troubled architect who left him as a child. He claims to have been invited by Elizabeth’s widow, Jill, who doesn’t remember reaching out to him. Out of respect for her late wife, Jill reluctantly invites Jack to stay at their home until the funeral, hoping they might get to know each other better. As Jack navigates his complicated feelings about his mother and the boyfriend he left behind, his interactions with Jill start off awkward and tense. Their situation becomes even more unsettling when Elizabeth’s ghost begins to possess them, briefly taking over their bodies and leaving no recollection of what was said or done during these eerie episodes.
