Ashur Sargon Eskrya was a humanitarian, an advocate, an activist, and a political leader among Assyrian Christians in Iraq. President of the Assyrian Aid Society of Iraq, and a man much respected by Yazidis, Kurds, and Arab Iraqis as well, he passed away on April 9, 2021 of COVID-19 at the age of 46. This film uses narration, archival footage, filmed memories and eulogies, photographs, and video of recent candlelight vigils to honor the legacy of a Nobel Peace Prize nominee (2016) whose work among those terrified, dispossessed, and hopeless during and after the ISIS occupation of the Nineveh Plains brought him recognition around the world. It also places his life in the context of the history of the Assyrians, telling their story of greatness and persecution alongside Eskrya's own.
