We Got Soul: The Story of the Big Boys (2022)

Even in ever-weird Austin, the Big Boys stood out with their unique mix of Hardcore-meets-horn driven funk, Texas skate, a Do It Youself ethos and a barely-contained, boundary-breaking approach to performance. We Got Soul is an intimate, expansive portrait of the Big Boys - and Austin's early 80s creative underground - that traces the history of the band while tracing the intertwining influences of America's rising Hardcore Punk scene, Texas skate culture, and Austin's long-standing tradition of embracing personal expression in all its extravagant forms. Building on an archive of cinematic interviews shot between 2015-17, this new production includes candid conversations with some of Punk and Skate's most influential culture makers, and goes into private collections of never-before seen photographs, original art, unreleased music and found footage to explore the chaotic history and enduring impact of the Big Boys - Skate Rock icons, QueerCore pioneers and DIY stalwarts.
