During the U.S. led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) offered intelligence and various other forms of support to the Coalition forces. In Nov 2001, a small team of covert operatives led by RAW Agent Shivram who had already infiltrated the ranks of the Taliban, assisted Northern Alliance troops to attack and capture the strategically important city of Mazar-i-Sharif. Intelligence provided by Shivram's team was instrumental in defeating and killing several key Taliban warlords. In the process, Shivram's cover was blown and he eventually became a prime target of retaliation and personal vendetta. Col. Shivram Narayan retired from active service in 2011 after more than 35 years of service in the Indian Army, RAW and the Intelligence Bureau. He is regarded as one of India's most renowned experts in International Espionage and Terrorism. Col. Shivram is now called back into service under a special assignment, to investigate the significant spikes in the number of youths travelling from the coastal regions in Kerala to Afghanistan, in attempts to join the so-called Islamic State. Some Old Wounds are about to be reopened.
