Ms. White follows the story of a Filipino American man, Ben Reyes and the obstacles he faces with his family after becoming newly engaged to his black fiance. Colorism is not a new subject. But it is something that pervades Asian society so strongly that from a young age, we are indoctrinated into using products, running away from the sun, and idolizing lighter-skinned members of our society and beyond. This idea is so strong in Asian culture, that men and women in this day and age, are spending thousands upon thousands so they can be injected with Glutathione, buy skin whitening solutions, and face dangerous procedures to be lighter. From India to China to Korea and beyond, there is a lack of discussion to this false belief that "whiter is better." Ms. White revolves around very popular whitening soaps in Asian society. Instead of promoting "loving the skin you're in," to our communities, commercials and advertisements push average citizens to CHANGE themselves into their "whiter, better" selves.
