Foster, a lonely British writer comes to Paris to write his next great crime novel. After a tense phone call with his estranged daughter, he ventures out for a walk across the streets of Paris; his mind lost in a haze of regret and contemplation. He ends up discovering an abandoned building in the burrows of Saint Denis, where he meets a lone, young American woman named Ella. Snarky and bursting with teenage angst, she bears striking similarities to his own daughter. Through their humorous, revealing exchanges, Foster begins to see reason as Ella highlights the root cause of all of his problems; ranging from his inability to truly express emotion, to his unreasonable expectations from a teenager. As they converse, he senses a change within him; a sudden incentive to become a better father. All the while, he realizes that all might not be as it seems in this strange building - with this strange young woman. Something else is at play. Something in his own head - Undertow is a compelling dive into the subconscious of a man haunted by his past, desperately seeking to make things right with those he loves.
