Forget Me Not (2021)

Sally suffers from dementia, a regularly misunderstood and mistreated illness. She believes she is in her prime, enjoying her twenties as a soon-to-be mother with her best friend, Isabel, by her side. Unbeknownst to Sally, however, Isabel is her live-in carer, helping Sally navigate the banalities of everyday life without disrupting her perceived reality. During a day in the park with Isabel, Sally's reality begins to be picked a part. After an elderly man boldly approaches Sally and unabashedly flirts with her, Sally's suspicions about the incongruous nature of her surroundings begins to grow. Following the encounter, when noticing Isabel's nonchalant reaction to the older gentlemen's advances, Sally, becomes annoyed and distrustful of her supposed friend and decides to escape Isabel's watchful eyes and wander off on her own. However, another bizarre interaction with a stranger in the park causes Sally extreme emotional distress. Desperately needing the comfort of something familiar, Sally sets off in search of her late husband, Frank, consequently becoming lost at a grimy and noise-filled underpass in the park. Isabel then finds Sally, terrified and overwhelmed by the unfamiliarity of her surroundings, as her perceived reality begins to crumble. Though she encounters some resistance at first, Isabel eventually manages to guide Sally back to the comfort of her preferred reality and convince her to return home with her. It seems that the outside world is where Sally is most at risk, however, it is when she returns to the solace of her own garden that the arrival of her pregnant granddaughter finally triggers the sudden change of perspective, reminding Sally of her actual life as an older woman and the confusing associations that she has structured her own world around.
