Mary E. Webb toured Britain in the 1850s with her husband, the writer Frank Webb, visiting leading abolitionists and giving stirring dramatic readings from classic and contemporary literature. In July 1857, Mary read at the Royal Institute in Liverpool. In July 2021 and with the help of Dr Hannah Murray (Department of English, University of Liverpool), Sidelong Glance recreated one of those occasions on the steps of the Old Welsh Chapel on Chatham Street, now home to the Management School at the University of Liverpool. In 'Let Her Witness It', Adrianna Edwards takes on the role of Mary and performs extracts from Harriet Beecher Stowe's play 'The Christian Slave', adapted for film by Eleanor Lybeck.
